Port Glasgow

Port Glasgow is a working class town in the Inverclyde area to the west of Glasgow, along the Firth of Clyde. Inverclyde is one of the most picturesque parts of Scotland but also one of the neediest. In the latest Scottish Index of Multiple Depravation (SIMD 2020) report, five so-called ‘data zones’ of Port Glasgow ranked in the bottom 5% for deprivation in Scotland.

The big issues contributing to these statistics are high rates of drug and alcohol addiction, and Port Glasgow is also the nearest town to ‘The Haven’, a Christian Rehabilitation Centre, where a number of 20schemes interns and church members have been helped and discipled.

Hope for port glasgow

We now have the exciting opportunity to work with Ambassador Church in the Oronsay area of Port Glasgow. This church has been very active in the work of reaching those struggling with addiction throughout Inverclyde, but as the years have progressed they are finding it challenging to have a significant gospel impact on the community.

They recently approached 20schemes to ask us to build a team to revitalise the church and to help them shine the light of the gospel into their community once more. We are looking forward to working closely with Ambassador Church in the months and years to come!

Our greatest needs at the moment is for a planter to come and lead this revitalisation project, and for churches to partner with Ambassador Church.

Is God calling you to serve Him in this part of Scotland where the lost not only need to hear the gospel and be saved but also be discipled as they walk the narrow path? Could your church partner with Ambassador to grow this church once again?

Please share this video in your church and spread the word. Email us for if you would like more information.

Current needs for prayer:

  • For us to be able to identify a church planter to lead this revitalisation work.
  • For people to see the need in this great community and so give their lives to sharing Christ with them.
  • For the current members of the church to continue to grow in the Lord as we help provide pulpit cover once a month until a team is put together.
  • For churches to get alongside this work in prayerful, financial and physical partnership. Find out more and enquire about church partnerships here.

Will you support the team serving God in Port Glasgow?
