Springburn

Once a thriving railway hub, Springburn has long felt the weight of generational poverty and social decline. Over the past few decades, the area has been deeply affected by:

  • High rates of crime, addiction, and unemployment
  • In the 2001 UK Census, 40% of residents lived in poverty, and nearly half lacked any formal qualifications
  • A 2010 CACI study ranked Springburn the most-feared neighbourhood in Scotland for violent crime
  • In 2013, Springburn had the highest child poverty rate in Scotland, with 51% of children living below the poverty line

Despite the darkness, there is hope.

Springburn Baptist Church (SBC) was founded in 1892 and was once led by pastors trained under C. H. Spurgeon in London. After many decades of faithful ministry, SBC approached 20schemes in October 2023 with a desire for revitalization.

By Christmas Eve of that year, Reagan and Gracie Eddins, along with their daughter Carrie, had begun attending SBC — with Reagan preaching and Gracie serving in music. In March 2024, the church voted for Reagan to become their next pastor, and by January 3, 2025, the revitalization partnership with 20schemes was formalized.

Today, Reagan is preaching through the Gospel of Mark, and the church is growing in faith and fellowship. Plans are underway to begin a midweek outreach with community meals, a women’s ministry, and Bible studies.

Reagan also serves as chaplain for Petershill Football Club, building relationships throughout the scheme.
