Kilwinning

About Kilwinning

Kilwinning is a traditional working-class town located in Ayrshire, around half an hour’s drive south-west of Glasgow. It has a population of just over 16,000 with at least 7 schemes in the town. According to the Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation 2020, 59% of Kilwinning’s population is in the top 20% most deprived of Scotland (10% in the top 10 percentile and 49% in the top 20 percentile).

The need for the good news of Jesus in Kilwinning is a bit overwhelming as there are, at most, 3 small Bible-believing and gospel-preaching churches (including KEC (see below)) for the 16,000+ people who live there.

Hope for Kilwinning

Kilwinning Evangelical Church’s roots go back to 1738 when it was founded by the Reverend Ebenezer Erskine. Some time later it became part of the Church of Scotland, but in 2005 left and joined the Fellowship of Independent Evangelical Churches (FIEC). It is through 20schemes’ partnership with the FIEC that a relationship between KEC and 20schemes came about.

Just now, we are in the beginning stages with revitalising Kilwinning Evangelical Church. We have been able to provide a church planter in Logan Heeke, who will pastor the church and, Lord-willing, lead a team to reach the many schemes surrounding the church in this traditional working-class town.

Logan, his wife Elizabeth and children are currently looking for a house in Kilwinning, with a view to moving there in the coming months. We are also in the process of building a team to be a part of and work with KEC to make Jesus known in the community.

Current needs for prayer:

  • Pray for all of us at KEC to be faithful and bold to make Jesus known.
  • Pray for souls to be saved in Jesus’ name.
  • Pray that we would continue to grow in our love for God, His Word, each other, and for the lost in our community.
  • Pray for the Heekes that they will find a house in Kilwinning and adjust well to life there, building meaningful relationships with the current church members and the community.
