Who We Are

Bringing the light of the gospel to Scotland’s schemes through church planting and revitalisation.

The schemes are the most deprived areas of Scotland

For such a little nation, Scotland has a rich gospel heritage. However, what once was known as ‘the land of the Book’ is no longer. Today, biblical Christianity has been sidelined in Scotland. Only 2.5% of Scots would call themselves Evangelical Christians, and in Scotland’s poorest communities, the housing schemes, the picture is even bleaker!

The Scottish government measures deprivation by looking at 7 factors: employment, health, education, access to services, life expectancy, crime and housing. Lives are devastated by drugs, alcohol, loneliness, crime, neglect, poverty and abuse. To some, schemes are places of terror, to others, places of hopelessness, but to many millions more they are simply home.

But the biggest crisis and most crippling poverty in the schemes is not drugs or alcohol or neglect. It is spiritual! Millions of people are perishing without the gospel and are unengaged by the church.

His intent was that now, through the church, the manifold wisdom of God should be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly realms. – Ephesians 3:10 (NIV)

We believe the local church is the answer!

At 20schemes, our desire is to see Scotland’s housing schemes transformed by the gospel of Jesus Christ through the revitalisation and planting of gospel-preaching churches, ultimately led by a future generation of indigenous church leaders.

We believe that building healthy, gospel preaching churches in Scotland’s poorest communities will bring true renewal to Scotland’s schemes.

How will we do this?

  1. Identify 20 schemes as priority areas
  2. Identify, where possible, church revitalisation partners in those schemes
  3. Recruit church planters, male and female gospel workers and ministry interns to send into those schemes
  4. Develop church partners to support and resource our work in the schemes
  5. Invest in indigenous leaders by providing training, resources, and support
