Lochee is a diverse scheme made up of locals and those from Asia and Africa. The scheme, while home to 19,000, has a strong sense of community and pride. However, behind this, Lochee has major problems with drug use, being located in a city where the scale of drug deaths is greater than anywhere in the United Kingdom.
Hope for Lochee
Lochee Central Baptist Centre was closed in the mid-1980s. Central Baptist Church in Dundee took in the remaining members and continued to use the building for youth work and community groups. In 2014, 20schemes partnered with Central Baptist to plant a church in the old Lochee building. In October 2016, Lochee Baptist Chapel launched led by Andrew Mathieson and supported by Dave Dickson.
