Let Glasgow Flourish…
For the next ten years we are focusing our church-planting and revitalising efforts (not exclusively but especially) in Glasgow and the West of Scotland.
Glasgow is Scotland’s largest city with close to 1 million people living in its metro area. Since 1866, the motto of the city has been ‘Let Glasgow Flourish by the preaching of his Word and the praising of his Name’ but as the ‘preaching’ and ‘praising’ began to diminish over the 20th century it was shortened to simply ‘Let Glasgow Flourish’. Today, less than 2% of the people of Glasgow attend a (broadly speaking) evangelical church.
In the schemes of the West (of which there are 97 in Glasgow alone) the picture is even bleaker, with very few healthy gospel churches thriving and reaching out. Glasgow is famous for it’s fun-loving, straight-talking and banter-full Glaswegians… but it’s also notorious for it’s history of gang violence, knife crime and drug addiction.
Glasgow is a great city… but it is a city with a great need… to once again hear and respond to the Good News of the gospel of Jesus Christ!
Thank you for your support!
Thanks to the generous support for our Christmas Challenge 2021, which aimed to raise $/£100,000 for church planting in Glasgow and the west of Scotland, we were actually able to raise $163,000 (£119,000).
We are greatly encouraged that you stand with us in our mission to bring gospel light to Scotland’s schemes.
All of that money will go directly towards planting and revitalising healthy, gospel churches in the schemes of Glasgow and the west of Scotland.
Already 20schemes have planted Hope Community Church Barlanark in the east end of Glasgow and are working to revitalise Maryhill Evangelical Church to the north of the city centre.
We are currently in the process of launching our West of Scotland Hub which will help focus and catalyse our work in this part of Scotland. Our vision for the new hub is to:
Work with like-minded churches to
Equip ministry teams and
Support wider ministry
Targeted at the schemes of Glasgow and the west of Scotland.
Work has already begun to recruit and train planters to send to new opportunities in new church plants in Baillieston, Kirkintilloch and Kilmarnock and we have an ever-growing list of contacts and opportunities that are also requesting help. The schemes of Glasgow are ready to flourish by the power of God and His people serving in the schemes!
If you are interested in serving in Glasgow’s schemes, as church planter, gospel worker or even on an internship, please contact Pete Stewart, 20schemes church planter who is heading up our Glasgow Hub.
